Dunster Community First School is a
co-educational day school for pupils aged 4 to 9. In the year 2006/ 2007 there are 156 on the roll and there is close liaison with the Pre- School run within the school.


The school aims to provide a safe, happy, caring, well-ordered environment in which learning can take place and where each child is valued as an individual. Work set matches the individual pupils' needs and abilities and the school aims to give special help to children with learning difficulties as well as to very able children.

Expect the best in everything - then play your part in achieving it.

The school moved into the present building in 1872 which was extended and modified in 1961, 1988 and 2000. It has a large hall and kitchen facilities. Some of the classromms have their own toilets and cloakrooms. Outside there is an outdoor heated swimming pool and changing room, two playgrounds and two playing fields.

Situated just within the Exmoor National Park, close to the historic Church with its carillon and dovecote, the school enjoys close ties with the village of Dunster. A number of local businesses support the school with prizes for fundraising and local people often come into school to talk to the children or to help with reading and craft work.

The strong Parent Teacher Association organises a range of fundraising and social events including the now famous Gig in the Garden. In the past the PTA have raised fund to finance the buiding of our swimming pool and a new PE store.
